The Nissan Armada and the Nissan Titan were siblings once upon a time. However, for the 2016 model year, the Nissan Titan was totally redesigned from the ground up with an all-new platform; that led experts to believe the Armada would soon follow suit. However, Nissan decided to throw a little bit of a plot twist into the fray. The Nissan Armada did enter a new generation for 2017, but instead of being based on the new Titan, the 2017 Armada is based on the global Patrol SUV.
After 12 years of being in the same cycle, the Nissan Armada was overdue for a major overhaul. Basing its platform on the Patrol will make it longer, thinner, and lower to the ground, in addition to being more rigid. A brand-new suspension and newly-developed acoustic glass on the windshield are only a few of the upgrades added to the Nissan Armada for a better and more relaxing driving experience.
Despite having the Patrol’s platform, however, the Armada is still getting powered by the engine under the Titan’s hood. With the 5.6-liter Endurance V8 propelling it forward, the 2017 Nissan Armada should crank out 390 horsepower for a smoother and more spirited performance. Towing capacity is rated at about 8500 pounds.
